2023 Toyota Camry

Toyota’s lineup is robust and filled with high-quality vehicles of all shapes and sizes. When shopping for a Toyota car, there’s no shortage of choices whether you want a sedan, SUV, EV, truck, etc. The 2023 Toyota Camry is the latest in a long-running line of sedans with production dating back over fifty years. What makes the Camry a worthwhile investment? More specifically, what makes the 2023 Camry a worthwhile investment? The Camry has had numerous iterations over the years, but the 2023 model is an XV70 model. Its setup is reminiscent of its predecessors, the 2021 and 2022 models. The Toyota Camry has received praise for a wealth of features, ranging from some of the best safety features to a respectable amount of performance.

The 2023 Camry has a price tag that won’t break the bank, and the Toyota Camry includes some of the best features in the segment, standard and available, at a lower cost than its competitors. When you purchase a Toyota Camry, you’ll be saving money in the future thanks to its efficient powertrains that leave frequent gas station visits in the past. Saving money is the name of the game with the Camry, both in the long run and when visiting a dealership.

The 2023 Camry is available with a wide variety of trims starting with the base LE that you can get as a standard gas or hybrid model. The SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE trims also have a hybrid option. The TRD does not offer a hybrid variant, but it’s arguably the most stylish with its rear diffuser and black and red aesthetic. The trims round out with the non-hybrid XLE V6 and XSE V6. In 2023, there is a Toyota Camry for everyone.

Performance

A Couple of Options for Power

The 2023 Camry retains the powertrains in use since the 2018 model year. Returning fans will feel at home, while new Camry drivers can look forward to one of two performant and efficient powertrains. Both engines pair nicely with an eight-speed automatic transmission, so whether you purchase the XSE V6 or save the most money with the base LE model, you'll have an enjoyable driving experience.

The base engine is a 2.5L I-4 engine available in more than one configuration, offering 202 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque at the minimum and 206 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque at most. This engine gets EPA-estimated ratings of up to 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway. Given the more-accessible price tag of the Camry, the 2.5L I-4 engine provides drivers with the performance and efficiency they need to assure the Camry will be their go-to commuter.

What if you wanted more performance, and if so, how badly would fuel efficiency be affected? The 3.5L V6 engine has been a fan favorite for Camry drivers since its first appearance, and it's hard to blame the fans when 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque are on the table. Compared to the best configuration of the 2.5L I-4 engine, the V6 provides drivers with 46% more horsepower and 43.5% greater torque output. What about efficiency? The V6 engine, despite its performance gains, retains excellent fuel efficiency, with EPA-estimated ratings of 22 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. The Camry isn’t shy when it comes to performance, and with the eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2023 Camry is as much of a commuter as it’s a Sunday Driver’s best friend.

Interior

A Commuter With a Good Amount of Space

The 2023 Camry is a textbook example of a prime sedan, and its interior is a good indicator of this. As a midsize sedan, the setup is you and four other passengers – two in the front, three in the back. Sedans tend to be distinctive enough that one will be less enjoyable to sit in than another. One of the primary causes is tighter seating conditions––most notably, head and legroom. Starting with legroom, the 2023 Camry gives you and the passenger to your right 42.1 inches of legroom, which is quite generous.

The back, which can make or break a sedan’s likability, gets a spacious 38 inches of legroom. Headroom can vary depending on whether or not you opted for the moonroof. However, the moonroof only slightly affects headroom, so it comes down to personal preference. With the moonroof, people in the front seats get 37.5 inches, and there's 38 inches in the back. Without the moonroof, the front seat gets an increased 38.3 inches of headroom, and the back row retains 38 inches.

What about cargo space? The 2023 Camry, like its recent predecessors, offers 15.1 cu.ft. of cargo space, which may be more than you’re used to in a sedan. This isn't SUV levels of space, but it will still be able to hold your groceries.

Making Sure Passengers Can Stay Entertained

The 2023 Camry is full of tech features. On select trims, the 2023 Camry comes standard with a wireless charging pad for any smartphone compatible with Qi charging, which most are. The charging pad comes standard on trims such as the XSE and XLE, but on trim levels like the LE, it’s available as an upgrade. Alternatively, charging cell phones can be achieved via the USB ports or the 12V auxiliary outlet, but connecting your cell phone via USB has another benefit: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The benefits of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are plentiful. From turn-by-turn navigation to a suite of multimedia features, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features in the modern-day infotainment center experience. The infotainment center displays on a seven-inch or nine-inch touchscreen, depending on the trim you purchase. Those who want an upgraded audio experience can get a Camry equipped with nine speakers and a subwoofer sound system.

Safety

Every Commuter Needs Good Safety Features

The 2023 Toyota Camry comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, a safety suite that combines the best safety tech under one umbrella. The Toyota Safety Sense suite includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. Before a collision occurs, the Toyota Camry can signal a warning to the driver that impact is imminent and can automatically apply the brakes if needed. With a Pre-Collision System that works for both cars and pedestrians, the chances of accidents aren’t only minimized but are less impactful if they do occur. Competing manufacturers offer similar safety systems, and it’s become more of a common sight with brand new vehicles, and the Camry is no exception.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ also includes Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, which makes driving on a multi-lane road a safer experience for yourself and the drivers around you. The Lane Departure Alert sends out an audible sound and visual cue when the vehicle begins to drift into the other lane. The built-in steering assist will then gently nudge the car back into place to avoid scraping another vehicle. Accidents on the freeway can occur in many ways, but drifting out of your lane is one of the primary causes, so having safety features designed to prevent these accidents is much appreciated.

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package also includes features such as Lane Tracing Assist and Automatic High Beams, among others. Automatic High Beams change the high beam’s brightness based on light levels––it can even sense oncoming traffic and turn the high beams off. Road Sign Assist is also standard, so when you pass a street sign like a speed limit sign, it’ll show on your Multi-Information Display. The Camry has historically been a safe vehicle, both in its array of features and also in the vehicle’s build quality.
